GxPReady! Supports Efforts for Disease Eradication
GxPReady! would like to contribute to the eradication of targeted diseases identified by the International Task Force for Disease Eradication (ITFDE) and The Carter Center.
Smallpox was eradicated in 1977. This proves that it can be done.
The ITFDE was formed at the The Carter Center to improve the quality of life of many of the world’s poorest people by identifying specific diseases that could be eradicated. The ITFDE identified eight such candidate diseases and three additional diseases are identified by The Carter Center.
The combined targeted diseases include the following:
- guinea worm (dracunculiasis)
- polio (poliomyelitis)
- lymphatic filariasis
- yaws (frambesia tropica)
- onchocerciasis, a.k.a river blindness
Three factors were identified to make it scientifically possible to eradicate a disease. These include
1. epidemiologic vulnerability
2. availability of an effective and practical intervention, and
3. demonstrated feasibility of intervention.
At GxPReady!, we believe that we can contribute, at least, to the second factor listed above. We believe that providing on line access to high quality, validated software (used to schedule calibration, maintenance, and validation) can reduce the cost of development of preventions and/or treatments for organizations attempting to develop treatments or therapies to address these diseases. Furthermore, the fact that the software is available via the internet allows potential improved compliance for organizations working all over the world.
To support this work, GxPReady!, as part of a pilot program for a limited time, is offering use of GxPReady! Suite™ software to a limited number of facilities at substantially reduced or no cost where it can be used to support efforts to help eradicate and/or control these diseases in the most affected areas and where the applicable organization is providing support at no or reduced cost to the patient population.
If you or your organization are developing drugs, therapies, biotechnology, or devices that work toward the eradication of these diseases, or you are operating labs or support facilities that require tracking of calibration, maintenance, or validation activities, we would be happy to speak with you about what we can do to help.
